This series has also been covered in the Series thread but I thought it deserved its own thread. Only watched one episode so far but I am hooked. Never watched the old series or read the book so this is new to me.
The Critical Drinker also gave this high praise. So far, awesome performances by Hiroyuki Sanada & Cosmo Jarvis. (yes, i had to google both these actors - LoL.)
As per Wikipedia - "Shōgun is a Japanese-American historical drama television miniseries created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks. It is based on the 1975 novel by James Clavell, which was previously adapted into a 1980 miniseries."
Premise - "Shōgun follows "the collision of two ambitious men from different worlds and a mysterious female samurai; John Blackthorne, a risk-taking English sailor who ends up shipwrecked in Japan, a land whose unfamiliar culture will ultimately redefine him; Lord Toranaga, a shrewd, powerful daimyo, at odds with his own dangerous, political rivals; and Lady Mariko, a woman with invaluable skills but dishonorable family ties, who must prove her value and allegiance."
