Shoplifting

Don't completely understand the situation.

She had two shopping bags, one basket with stuff from current store.

Then another bag with stuff she bought for her daughter. I'm assuming shopping done at another store. Did this second bag also contain items from the current store?

On her way to get another card, she left the store carrying this second bag. What is the problem if this contained items that she bought elsewere? Surely a till slip could prove that.

If this bag contained items from the current shop, I looks rather suspicious imo.

You have totally misread the post.
She chose 2 bags worth of items.
One for herself and another for her daughter.
She paid for the one bag but walked out with the other apparently because she forgot she had R1500 worth of stuff in her hand.

Well, did she try and explain to the manager?

Even though, from where I'm sitting, it seems pretty intentional. Where was she going to get the card from? I don't know about you, but most of my female friends keep their cards in their purse, with them.

My wife used to be a manager at a retail store. If the person had money to pay for the item he/she stole, my wife would let her pay for the items and let her go.

If the person did not have money, then he came there to steal. She'd then call the police. End of story.

We have a local shopping centre with a Checkers and a Woolies food next to eachother. The woolies has a walk through setup where there is an entrance on the checkers side and another one from at the parking area. So often I buy most of my stuff at checkers and maybe get a bag of salad or avos from Woolies, still carrying my checkers bag. Its easy to accidentally put a woolies item into the checkers bag (or on purpose to steal). I am actually waiting for this to happen to me. Point is how do you prove that it was accidental? It will likely be at most one or two items though. I bet they lose quite a bit from this daily.

Done this before to my horror, I now make it a point when entering another shop of tying the bags handles together or getting the guard at the door to tie it up for me.

Agree. The initial post is confusing.

shoplifting? you say shoplifting? 21 items? is that all? hahahaha let me tell you my story and this is true right down to the finest detail.

went to a shop - not going to tell you because i am still embarassed about it LOL. was doing my grocery shopping and husband dearest went to off to look around while i do the shopping and he was going to come back and pay. i had finished shopping and was waiting for him and he was taking his time. i was at the entrance of the shop with a trolley full of groceries and he was nowhere in sight. i was tapping my foot, getting redder in the face, fuming mad. i stormed out the store to try and see if i could maybe see him somewhere in the vicinity. i still had the trolley of shopping with me when i stomped out the shop. still no husband. so i waited outside by some cart that was selling wares. i saw him coming up and marched towards him mouthing off yada yada, blah blah, what is taking so damn long i am long done and waiting lets go now i'm so angry with you do you blah blah. off i stormed towards the car trolley in tow.

as we were walking he says to me, did you pay for the shopping!!!! i turn to him and say "WHAT?" he says again, did you pay. it was then i realised i hadn't paid for the shopping. i didn't know what to do i high tailed it out there and left the trolley with the security guard in the parking lot hahahaha.

I think the 21 items will save her. Surely a shoplifter would steal something small yet expensive. I can't imagine shoplifitng your general purchase type products.

I think OP's mate must have a suspended sentence by now.

It can easily happen if you are daydreaming.

OP must have somehow landed in jail too. Court must have gone very badly.
