Hello,

I am interested in raising the profile of my 98 elantra.

It is a low profile, I would like to buy bigger tires to help with this and possibly adjust the suspension?

Has anyone tried this before, what are the known pitfalls to look out for when changing stock tyres.

My current tires do not have a lot of wear, hoping someone can point me to a good place where I can shop for specials?

Am in Johannesburg area.

Thanks

The car is likely designed with standard tyres in mind. So going from low profile to standard shouldn't be an issue. Unless the person who put it on low profiles also messed with the suspension....in which case....god help you.

You don't list the reasons for wanting to change your tyres and suspension.

Are the current wheels standard fitment? If so what pressures are you running? How old is your car? When last have you changed shocks?

Perhaps you don't need to make any drastic changes?

Increase the profile? Rather go back to being a hitchhiker! :D

Rather try a better brand of tyre, if I remember, the old elantra had a high profile tyre already, just lower the tyre pressure.

lol @ haldex

I need to get better ground clearance because the engine is hanging quite low to the ground.

I have to drive on bad dirt roads and even plain farm roads which sometimes doesn't resemble a road at all.

My current stock tyres are 155/80 R13

How do I safely increase ground clearance, any drawbacks?

Edit: Die middelmannetjie is +- 5cm van my sump af op sekere plekke, ek het al op kere die grond gevang en dan krap dit my engine, as die sump 'n olie lek ontwikkel gaan ek jammer wees ekt dit probeer.

By buying a bakkie.

You can't do much to alter ride height with tyre circumference - you'll very quickly have the tyres rubbing the insides of the wheel arches. If your engine is hanging low enough to pose a risk, perhaps it has sagged due to a failed mounting.
