I know what you're going to recommend (HA?) ... and it will likely workNot that I know of.
What’s the end goal?

I just don't have the time or inclniation right now to learn & play to get everything working.
I'm still trying to get a notification to my kitchen whn the grid is on or off, so that girlfriend is aware not cook or use heavy loads. The inverter can send either a mail or push notification when the grid is on or off (though, haven't physically tried this) - and if this works, I can use either as a trigger for a light or Alexa notice or something. Shortcuts seems quite powerful - so was hoping I could somehow use that .
Every plug is on the inverterEven with HA it would be challenging.
If it can use email to send a notice that may be one avenue and you could use Pushbullet to send it on.
Maybe Telegram?
But the most obvious thing…why not just put the app on her phone so she gets the push notification herself?
Alternatively use a smart plug NOT on the inverter and use that for the trigger to action something else.
Put a Sonoff "Loadshedder" device on your DB - have it trigger an LED and/or a lamp with a Wifi enabled LED bulb in the kitchen (like the Sonoff Wifi bulb) to turn RED when the grid is off.Every plug is on the inverter
Regarding the app on her phone, there are two reasons :
a) She hardly uses her phone. She would just miss it anyway. Can take her hours to even reply to a WhatApp. She’ll miss it
b) If someone else is in the house (ie helper), I
also want her to know she should hold off on ironing or something.
Email does seem to be a trigger in Shortcuts and you can use From and Subject to trigger something. I wonder if it can trigger a HomeKit globe from the mail?
I just need to hope the subject of the mail it sends is unique
I’ll check out push bullet

I don’t have HomeKit stuff - but happy to buy a HomeKit bulb to switch on/off to indicateOkay you have HomeKit stuff that makes it a lot simpler.
Then just do a Personal Automation based on Email and trigger a Homekit device.

It will cost you a few rands but it's 100 percent reliable, and super simple to use.
I haven't regretted installing the Sonoff Loadshedder - it switches 3 Wifi lightbulbs in various locations in the house one when LS kicks in
Edit: I have learned that 'free' is often expensive from a time perspective.

It's just a bulb - so if that'll solve what I need, I'm happy .Yeah sadly support for Shortcuts from Tuya and Sonoff is non existent otherwise you could just do that from here.

What is the cheapest HomeKit bulb ?
No hubs or anything needed?

You need a hub I believe. If you have an Apple TV or iPad that can be used as a hub.
