First off I run windows x64.

Ok here's the problem. I have two folders each on a seperate partition and hard drive. When I make a shortcut of folder1 on hdd1 and put it in folder2 on hdd2 and visa versa explorer crashes. So it would be linked like this:

C:\folder1\folder2.ink ( shortcut linking to D:\folder2\ )
D:\folder2\folder1.ink ( shortcut linking to C:\folder1\ )

I can then reopen explorer and go on with my business but as soon as I go into folder1 or folder2 explorer crashes again.

Why does this happen and how can I stop explorer from crashing?

that sounds like a recursive shortcut problem (somehow, lets just assume that is what is happening)

I have a feeling you would be better off using symlinks instead of shortcuts..that was hdd2 can "reside" in hdd1, so to speak.

go have a look here http://www.pearlmagik.com/winbolic/ (it is just a gui tool for functionality already present in windows) and see if this perhaps fits the bill better than your current solution

1st response:
Ohhh that is such a cool program. Almost exactly wat I was looking for. Would it be possible to link files like that so that you see the files of two different folder in the same place instead of seeing it in a seperate folder? I know they say junctions can only be made between folders and not files, but isn't there some other technique that creates a junction-like link between files in seperate folders?

2nd response:
Yes there are other files in the folders.
