Should a SA website be hosted in SA?

From my own personal experience, local datacenters typically experience more downtime than the pipelines do.

@chopsky, not sure I agree, we have our DC in JHB and we have a 100% uptime so far for the last 5yrs, 6 months (Hope I don’t jinx this)

Could be easier with the VAT issue from April.

Not really an issue unless your company is registered outside of SA. If it is a South African company it should already be paying VAT. No matter where the servers are hosted.

@ghoti, I think you may have missed the point, technically it is an issue as all the international suppliers who supply services to SA have to register with SARS for VAT

I dont think I missed the point. Im talking from the perspective that most of us are south africans with south african registered companies, so yes while I understand some of us will pay more for services, most of our clients are already paying VAT. Ie. This wont impact my clients for the service they get from me, but I know that some suppliers to me might cost more.

This is going to be the most unenforceable tax law ever.
