Should be on VDSL but instead I'm on GDMT

Hi guys,

I requested VDSL last Friday through Afrihost. Order is marked complete on Telkom website but now I'm on GMDT according to my router. I tried telkom chat as per forum recommendations to convert my profile to VDSL but Kurt from Telkom chat told me that they don't deal with such matters.

Should I rather let Afrihost try and resolve this, the guys on this forum seems to have much more success with Telkom chat than I've had.

I also changed to VDSL a few days ago. Phoning Telkom does not help, wasted 3 hours on the phone. I posted something on HelloPeter and just got a reference number with no followup.

So I ended up tweeting to @TelkomZA and @HelloTelkom. Few hours later @HelloTelkom responded to say my DSL profile has been changed to VDSL.

Noticed that the connection on my router changed to VDSL.

Edit: I'm not with Afrihost, my line is with Telkom and I use Vox as ISP.

If you lease your line via Afrihost then AFRIHOST must resolve your issue as you are paying them to do so.

Rather move your line from Afrihost to Telkom so that Telkom Social media and other departments will have full control of your line.

Thanks for the replies, sorry for only getting back now.

I logged a fault with Afrihost and got a call from Telkom yesterday. The guy said he will look into it. Seems I'm back on ADSL2+ but I'm not sure because I've got a Tp-Link ADSL2+ modem in bridge mode to an ASUS DSL n17u VDSL router.

The reason for this funny setup is the ASUS can't establish a DSL link on its own, so something is maybe still fishy with the line; I've tested the ASUS at work and DSL indicator lights up instantly, while at home it's pretty dead. The old Tp-link also establishes a DSL connection instantly, which makes this problem even stranger.

For now I have 16Mbps down and 0.8 up with 10ms ping, so it's not a train smash.

Update: I got beta firmware for the ASUS DSL N17U from the ASUS forums. Now the line is running straight from the VDSL splitter to the N17U, still on G.992.5 and I think it should be on G.993.2 if I’m not mistaken.

I’m sent Telkom a PM through Facebook, hopefully they can sort it.

What exactly did you tweet them?

Update #2: Telkom let me know of the following through Facebook:

"Good day, as per our records: ADSL Synch Mode: ADSL2 ,ATUC Current Rate (kbps): 19169 kbps kind regards ^GC"

"Greetings, unable to change the modulation to VDSL , due to exchange being FTTH and not VDSL compliant , kind regards ^GC"

I'm in the blue circle in the green area, so the Telkom site isn't totally correct.

The adsl2+ will have to do for now.

Thanks for the help

Your exchange is FTTH compliant, why don't you jump on that?
