Hi,

I just upgraded my line to 4/10mb, this is what my router says

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin : 23.1 16.2 db
Line Attenuation : 20.0 13.3 db
Data Rate : 6144 635 kbps

it's a Telkom 5102G

with attenuation like that should I not be getting 10mb instead of 6?

or might it just be the router?

Thanks
Me

You can definitely get 10mb.

It may be that the dslam only gives 6mb; see if you can find neighbours who also have adsl and ask what speed they have.

Afrihost recreated my port and now it's syncing at 10mb

downstream

SNR 8 dB
Attenuation12.8 dB

Happy days :)

Snr of 8 is borderline stable. Bad weather might produce line drops. Hopefully it stays stable. Else just drop to 8

Hi There,
Yes I think you should get 10MB and asking Telkom to assist is the right approach. It mwy be though that you are only getting 6MB because of congestion in whihc case you will have to grin and bear it.

But do build up a bit of rapport with the Telkom technicians then they are generally willing to assist

Regards

Tim
