Should i buy an Xbox 360??

I dont game much, very little actually used to game quite a bit.
Work! always tired! etc. At the moment i've played one game for the year Gears of war probably 5% completed, played crysis about 3-4% then left it(boring)

So yeah i dont game much. I'm a PC gamer and have always been... i own a usb 360 controller though used it for Marvel alliance abit earlier this year. So i game on and off now and then.

I want to play GTA 4 should i buy an Xbox 360 for R1900 from HIFI corp?
I want to game now and then & flash it to play backups(friend has a few games) would like to pop them in once or twice.
Is it easy to flash can i do it myself? And should i get it, will it be worth it? Will that cheap one be fine without upgrades?
At the moment i have an Nvidia 7600 series Gfx card fine to play most games on high at low res but its getting old now. Bought it a while ago 1-2 years only used it this year for GOW thats all. So either i spend R1900 on 8800GT or buy the Xbox?? either way i think i'll only use it for at the most 20hours of gaming a year.

I'm asking all this because i'm a console noob.. Also can i plug a usb mouse and keyboard in the xbox? For FPS the gamepad doesn't make sense to me??

hmmm .... if it's strictly either an X360 or a 8800GT, I'd say go with the card. Unless, you seriously can't stand waiting to play GTA4 anymore .. then go get yourself that Arcade version and play :D

Its not strictly the one or the other... what did you have in mind?? Will GTA4 ever come to pc though? Thing is i'll only complete the game 20-30% at most and i'll get bored as usual so i donno :confused: :o
 
I have never regretted getting my X360 but if you are 1) not much of a gamer and 2) more a PC gamer, then get the gfx card ....... GTA4 is headed to PC (end next year I think). Would be a bit of a waste of an Xbox to hardly use it I guess is what I mean.
 
swop or sell me baby!!! blasphemer ...... never bru :D Why not get an Arcade from Telscum? ..... R100 odd on your bill a month and you get an extra wireless controller ;)

GTA4 is great on the 360. A definate reason to buy the console :)

I can also make a plan to organise a HDD if you decide to buy the Arcade. Xbox Live is a great service.

Thx for the ideas guys. Do i need a HDD? weird that it comes without one. Remember i'm a console noob. Easy flash diy?
ALSO very important!!! KEYBOARD MOUSE? will usb work? I will NEED this for FPS otherwise i will bash the screen with a hammer!!

Borrowed it from a buddy to "test drive" for a month or two. If i liked it i was going to buy it from him but needless to say i got bored and gave it back. :o
 
The Arcade comes with a memory card, which is fine for game saves. But if you want to download content from Xbox Live like map packs, etc ... then the HDD is necessary.

The Arcade is dirt cheap because it doesn't have a HDD :D

EDIT: Firmware modding is DIY but you need specific hardware (a mission to find) and software (easily downloadable) to do the flash process. I'm in the biz so I know what it takes to do. I'm hard at work finding contacts to get Xbox 360 parts for a decent price ... but its tough as you have to import :(

I have never really understood ppl who buy a console for one game... Unless you got alot of spare cash lying around...

If you not really a big gamer rather get the budget PS3 an at least you got a blue-ray player lying in your lounge as well.. (cant believe i just said that)
 
I used to be a hardcore gamer, back in Quake 1, Half-life 1, red alert, AOE, Ultima Online(will never forget best days of my life!)
I wanna start again(not as hardcore this time) so i'm gonna finish Gears of War to get me started.
Again anyone on the mouse keyboard question?

There is an adapter that you can import that allows a USB mouse & keyboard to be used.

Unfortunately, it only translates the keyboard/mouse input to the controller signals. A hack of sorts :(

We're awaiting official M$ keyboard & mouse support ...
