I'm looking to buy an Opel Astra OPC 2007-2009 model,it's always been a dream car for me, anyway, I can find some good deals from dealers with about 50 000km -70 000km going for a bout 11 000 Euros (i'm staying in EU) . Now the cars have a full service history and when buying from a dealer they generally have some kind of warranty and at least a one year guarantee on second hand cars. Now is it stupid stupid of me to buy so old car, I do have the cash for it so it's not like I will finance it, I had the GTC when I was back in SA but the OPC is like my childhood dream

Also, would you say that mileage is decent, what mileage would be to high to buy a car at?

mileage is not a good indication of condition so I wouldn't attach much importance to it, the car is also not old although in the EU they are quite strict with emissions etc so I'm not sure how age impacts owning these cars.

I know of a few OPCs that ran into gearbox issues, that m32 gearbox is not as strong as the (Gertrag) F28 found on earlier TS models. Also after 100 000km you may wish to consider servicing or replacing the turbo.

I had an OPC and they are good cars but if you are looking for childhood dream cars, consider the e30 M3.

it cannot compare to the Delta Motor Corporation of South Africa Opel Monza 160i GSi Car of the Year 1991

Unfortunately the Delta Motor Corporation of South Africa Opel Monza 160i GSi Car of the Year 1991 was never sold in Europe.

BUT! and a big BUT... It can drive to Germany and back... with the aircon on... literally.

This is of historical significance.

My rule of thumb is not to buy a second high performace car. You never know how the pervious owner drove the car.

If you really want it ask them to do compression tests on the 4 cylinders. I am not sure what they should be, and they should be more or less close to one another.

Hope this helps

NO !

Joke? :wtf:

You think the Delta Motor Corporation of South Africa Opel Monza 160i GSi Car of the Year 1991 is a joke????

:erm:

Next they'll be telling us that the extra reserve tank is also a "joke".

So run the tets but whatever the outcome is it is fine as long as they are more or less close to each other?

I can never quite fathom this logic.

You never know how a previous owner drove ANY car, but any less so you have even less information regarding a brand new car which could also be a lemon.

So in fact a higher mileage car in good nick tells me that it's been looked after well and has done many miles quite happily. Therefore even if the previous owner drove it's tits off it got this far and should still go much further.

Just don't buy a car with no service record and take the car to be checked by a third party and you've got nothing to worry about.
