I am currently on a Cybersmart Adsl plan for 3gigs, 384 kbs (256kbs download, 128kbs upload) paying R259 a month. Is there any isp that is cheaper for more bandwith and/or speed or just better for the price?

Any help will be appricaited.

Thanx in adance

Damn.... that's pretty expensive.... but 384 means you have 384 down and 128 up.... :p
You could try Axxess: 3GB for R179, Imaginet has a semi-shaped 3GB for R190 (unshaped off-peak)....

No, it's no expensive as that price includes that adsl rentals that you normally pay to telscum, it's part of the All-in-one packages from Cybersmart.

The price that you mentioned from Axxess of R179 for 3gb is expensive when compared to cybersmart as, they charge R125 for 3gb (without adsl rental).

Exactly. That price is not bad.

R152 of it is line rental. That leaves R107 for 3gb and I'm guessing the router.
Exactly ;)

do they allow a local cap after your international has been reached ?

Nope they hardcap like a mother ;)
And if your last session at the end of the month does manage to go over your cap, they bill you for the usage the next month.

Maybe he should have mentioned (in the first post) that the R259pm included line rental....

Anyways, some ISPs are very leniant when it comes to capping. I "try" not to overuse mine's leniancy, but yeah well that doesn't always happen... like last month I ended up on 1100% of my cap... and still got billed the normal price.

i'm happy with my telkom (not the service)
1 gig local which goes to about 1.6 gig before you get capped and the 10 gig local
I use axxess to brows international once my telkom is capped.
if you take the 10 gig at their (cybersmart) rate it will cost you R116 for the local given to you by telkom (for now)

the 1 gig plus line rent is R169 at cybersmart telkom is R199 but they cap you at exactly at 1 gig and telkom allow about 600 meg on a 1 gig before they cut you.

while the top ups at cybersmart are very reasonable I don't actually think that there is a magic bullet but rather a magic blend of service providers.

some one up to the task of writing a recipe ?
