Should I change to Cell C?

My contract with Neotel is coming to an end in Jan 11. I can't say that I am very happy with Neotel. Most of the time, download speeds ranged between 160 - 400 kb/s. On days that it was bad, it was bad. On the odd occasion I saw 500+.

I am very interested in the Cell C R1499 option. Currently I am paying R399/month for 2.3 gig. Any thoughts?
 
Most definately Network1, switch to CellC you will immediately feel the load and frustration lifted off your shoulders.

Why support a company that only but has a shady history, does not have any interest in the customer's needs and is now an ISP with the least value for money, blatantly lies to the customer and has absoloutely no customer service?

3 years later I am still trying to recover from embarrassment for switching friends and family over to Neotel as well as recover from Post Traumatic Stress Trauma.
 
LOL, there is no question here, of course, why would you even consider staying.

What a nightmare this Neotel flex has been, but almost at the end, cancelation letter is all typed and ready to go.

Busy testing cell C 2GB package at the moment, but will also get the 5GB.

First of all no buffering with youtube, what a joy - usually it takes me on average 10 - 15 minutes to load a 4 min clip, now it just streams.

Needed to download open office - neoflex crawled at a snail pace, showed almost 3 hrs to complete, so stopped somewhere after 20 minutes of getting no where - Cell C 2Gb which is the slower 7mbs service downloaded this in 6 min 12 seconds.

Yeh, its not 100% roses and the cell C service has had a hiccup here and there, but wow, can't wait to cancel this non existant service from neotel.

oh yeh, Cell C shows you your usage, another something neotel just can't get right.

Thanks guys, must say I expected some support for a move - however - the intensity of your comments leaves me with little doubt!!:)
 
Just compare on a feature by feature basis.
Get info on how cell c works.
Ask about the purchase&installation, then about the speed and then about how many days have there been time outs or very slow speeds.
After you have that information I'm sure you'd be better off, plus ask about the service and how billing&data monitoring is.
I think most or even all will be better than neotel.

if that doesn't bother you to much, then yes again.
 
I got the E1752 today and I don't regret it but I will take it back soon I sense.
I got very good speeds for about 10 minutes, out of a couple of crappy hours. It disconnects a lot, can't get it to connect to the 3g for longer than a few minutes without
moving around my laptop in a semi-covered shed( finding an open area ). Even moving around didn't help a bit for the past few hours.
Basically I can't compare this to my neotel for gaming purposes, that's why I bought it.
I think I'm in a bad area, coverage shows that I'm on a 2nd best covered area(2nd darkest red).
Now I'm waiting for an email, otherwise it's hello peter coz they seem to reply to the many daily complaints, after that I'm probably going to return it if it doesn't work, then just get adsl less problems.

you should consider getting a router - though its a tough one if you are considering returning it, but they on bob from R399.

I found when connecting the 3g direct to a pc or laptop my connection and speeds were erratic.
For example on my one Pc I could just not connect in the location where the pc is.

With a laptop, I had better speeds and connection, but also it would vary on the location, there are certain dead spots where it just dies, and certain areas where its whoooooooosh.

Anyhow bottom line is I need to connect a few pcs and xbox and psn, so I purchased a router, found a brilliant spot and all pcs and xbox have been flying, even in the storms we’ve had the last 2 days.


edit: oh yeh, I'm also very borderline according to the coverage map

Makes sense, on my fixed position pc the modem could hardly go into 3g mode but using it on my laptop and moving it around I could get 3g eventually.
Problem is even when I did get 3g (cyan/blue light indicator) the connection would eventually go back to EDGE(green light) or it would disconnect after a few minutes or
just browse slowly even at 3g/3g+....is that similar to what happened to you when you say erratic?

BTW could you find a spot at your home where you get whooosh before using the router, or was it only after you got the router that you got good speeds.
If you could find a good spot to use the USB straight from your laptop then I think I'd need to get that sorted first, otherwise if it's the router that helped most then I'll get one.

Yes, I get good speeds without router, actually faster if i connect just to one pc, depending on location.

My mom had a similar issue, she also got the Cell C, and we moved her pc a fraction, and I mean really like 2 - 3cm just to face the door towards the tower better and she is now whoooooooooooooosing 3 days straight - the first two days were a complete nightmare.
she used to use Vodacom 3g though, which is also moody.

With the router today I had two instances where it just stopped, but thats wireless for you, it then just came back with its usual whooooooosh.

Router or cell c is moody, sometimes you just cant access certain websites, no logic, they just don't work, and then they do. One day it was bidorbuy, then it was yahoo, today they both working, go figure.

And I don't get this, even after moving around everywhere around my place. My area doesn't get good signal, best hope would be an antenna
and I don't want to spend on that so I cancelled today. At the store it works perfectly btw.
 
i also had coverage issues with the 2GB deal...its really good n fast only when u find the right spot with coverage. such a pity, but im returnin mine for refund soon

if you have a spot with coverage then why take it back?
cell c flies, its damn awesome
 
SERIOUSLY think twice about Cell C...

Slower and slower.... Cell C's only whoooosh is the earth passing us by when we're trying to use the internet....

I understand Cell C started doing some backbone upgrades around 2 weeks ago, i wonder if they forgot to turn the power back on.
I'm sure that they should also know by now, that there are a huge amount of unsattisfied client. I had to use my voda sim to make a skype call & open a webpage today without dropping the skype call.... is this 21.6mb connection. I think not.

took the liberty of doing a speedtest;

Cell C Sim - this is peer connection in Cape Town, speed test done to Cape Town (Webafrica)

Voda Sim - tested about 4 minutes later (as quick as it takes to swop the sim out, and get back online again)

Nothing running on the internet but only skype online, how can these connection vary so much using the same hardware, only difference is a sim card & network....

I'd really appreciate someone from Cell C replying on this post.

My biggest regret is getting cell c, thats all I can say.

It's like renault, good product but the service just ruins the experience.....
 
I am in the process of dumping Neotel for Cell C. Already have one speedstick and will get another at the end of the month. Not that I had a service problem with Neotel, its just that I am getting great speed from cell C and mobility thrown in for the same price as a NeoFlex 15GB package.
In Randburg I get great speed and reliability.
