like i said i have no idea how this stuff works but for me to go back to Gold status has meant i am scoring

i never ever make a deposit and i only withdraw from Pick n Pay as it is safe and free

That is very weird, I only get charged the monthly account fee which is R209 per month on the Premium bundle, I don't ever go over my limits so there are no excess fees for me, maybe asking FNB where those charges came from would be the wise thing to do.

i have been with FNB since the 80s.
very happy with them
also happy on Gold, the premier meant nothing to me, i never once ever used the SLOW lounges, too yuppy for me  so i saw no benefit in it for me

It depends on how you bank or choose to bank.

It seems you are not the type of person who goes through the (very little) effort to lower your banking fees and maximise ebucks earn so you are better off switching to Captiec.

For others, like myself, upgrading my account and maximising ebucks earn ends up with me receiving over 6x my banking fees back in ebucks.

I also use none of the fancy stuff that comes with premier and the likes but ended up upgrading to PC to earn more ebucks.
If you're hitting the spend limits on gold and would reach level 5 after upgrading, that is a pretty good reason to upgrade.

yeah and i was also stuck on level zero eBucks no matter how hard i tried
they would not bump me up no matter what as i wasnt earning R30k a month.
as soon as i went Gold bam instant Level 4
Now i am just waiting for my 1 savings account to be at R7500 and then i will move up to Level 5 :)

I never read the thread fully so not sure if someone said it yet but CAPITEC Kills your credit score. If can live with a worst credit score then it's up to you

Can you elaborate on this, please?

I use the ebucks rewards calculator to do what I can to get to level 5 (on gold). I then do grocery shopping at Checkers, fill up fuel at Engen, use my credit card everywhere instead of my cheque to maximise rewards. Those are the main earners for me. Sometimes I get ebucks from using uber / uber eats and from forex charges, but not every month.

Although bank charges are minimal at Capitec, I also prefer FNB. There are just so many perks at FNB and one of them is EBucks. I also have a funeral policy with them with excellent cover at a reasonable cost. No problems with pay out either.

If you want to earn 6 times more ebucks than your bank fees, like some advertised, be ready to spend some moola. Some rich folk don't even realize how much money they have and spend and will tell you otherwise. If you're not hoop jumping + spending thousands at Engen and thousands at Checkers, you're better off at Capitec.

totally agree 100%
work the system in your favour

For interests sake, I checked out the ebucks calculator linked above. I can only get 4500 reward points without going through hoops.

i was on Premier and downgraded in January back to Gold account, waaaaaay cheaper.
I am level 4 eBucks so in the end i kind of break even, i think i actually earn more back than what banking fees costs me.

how do you downgrade?

how do you downgrade?
when i logged onto the fnb online website there was a Premiers phone number there, your own private banker type of thing.
i made contact and they sent me new forms to fill in
was very easy and everything just worked
i was nervous as i could see 4 accounts for a month
FNB Cheque Gold , FNB Credit Gold
FNB Cheque Premier, FNB Credit Premier
but after a month or so the 2 just fell away
so i am only on Gold now, wont ever upgrade again, for me it isnt worth it, for others yes it is :)

Why are you not on a capped all inclusive package?

Premier is R205 odd a month. Klaar.

Seems people don't have the banks wrong, just woefully incorrect product options.

*****

Actually it seems suspiciously like you've gotten billed for two month's fees in a single month. Are you sure you paid fees the month after or before?
