I am strapped for cash and my university classes makes it hard for me to find work that doesn't conflict with them. An opportunity to sell iBurst contracts for a certain reseller has come up which imposes no fixed hours on me. I would be paid a fixed fee for every person who signs up due to my "advertising", if you will.

The reason why I ask you people if I should try this out is because there seems to be quite a bit of negative views concerning iBurts on these forums.

Am I just going to cause myself more headaches than it is worth?
Do you people consider it to be a "forbidden" job such as working for Hellkom?
Is iBurst really that bad, and if so will it be unethical to try and sell their product?

I really don't want to sell a worthless product to people that is just going to cause them grief in the end.

Edit: I would be selling in the brooklyn area - Pretoria

Well, I think firstly you will need to tell us where you are located, and in essence where you plan to sell, then try to get some feedback from people in those areas, as well as have a look at iBurst's coverage in said areas.

It really differs from person to person as to the connection they get, and in turn how happy they will be with the service. kingrob and myself connect to the same tower, he is even closer to it than I am, and I am not even supposed to get signal, but I download easily at between 90KB/s and 120KB/s ... kingrob cancelled his iBurst last week.

So yeah, it is difficult to say ... If the reseller is going to support the clients, and you don't have to deal with it, then I reckon you will be ok. Just make sure that when you go to someone to sell, that you can do a signal test ... don't screw them over just for the sake of making a sale

I was wondering if the reseller would have a modem available so that I could go and test the signal. I'll ask them tomorrow though. Any more points I should make sure of that you people can think of?

There are many points you should be aware of... read through the iBurst sticky’s, this would be a good starting point - do not suggest the purchasing of omni antennas or suggest that the client will be able to access a download speed of 1 Mbps.

Who is the reseller offering you a job? I'm just asking because for a while I sold MyWireless contracts under a certain reseller who liked to not pay their workers... would like to give you fair warning if it is still them.

Above all else, realise that anyone in the telecommunications industry in SA = filthy thieves. Work cash ONLY with EVERYONE.

Donovan, that is not really a fair comment. Sure there are some truly dodgy guys out there as in any industry. We ALWAYS pay our guys provided they have held up their end of the contract and even in the few cases where we have parted ways with resellers, they have not left unhappy.

Faceless, make sure of how you are paid and when you are paid. Then find out how much admin is required from your side to:
a) Get the client signed up and
b) Claim your commission.

The former should take about 2 hours at most in most cases and the latter should take you about 1 hour per month.

No!

Agents get commision to sell and iBurst staff a salary to turn customers away.Your hard earned work goes to waste once the staff start processing the contracts, every step of the way is messed up,making the customer liable.
Yup!that's right ask people to pay a company to offer shocking service levels.

I agree with other forumites, if you can earn money by selling iBurst contracts, GO FOR IT!!

I cancelled my iBurst contract because of iBurst frequent disconnects, s...l...o...w... mail server, poor customer service and, the biggest factor for me, Vodacom 3G/HSDPA is just much faster than iBurst - and it is much more 'mobile'.

Treacherous ground…

Just make sure you don't provide your clients with any contact details - cause they are going to come looking for you!
