Am in the process of buying a used vehicle. it's a 2006 jetta 5 1,9tdi comfortline, 194000km's. FSH. in guite a good condition, the motor was replaced with a BRAND NEW motor by market square vw in uitenhage at 122000 km's, market square has confirmed this with the vin number supplied, so basically just over 70k mileage done on this motor, turbo and egr valve was replaced last year, went through the AA 101 point check and roadworthy with no problems. getting it for R72000. Good deal or not? and another question is, the onboard pc shows fuel consumption to be 9,9l/100km. that seems abit high but i dont know how accurate that pc is. whats the average mileage on a full tank on those vehicles with decent driving and what size tank does it have?

all help is appreciated

Sounds like a good deal. The consumption will depend on the driver. I get an average of 5-6 in my 1.9TDI Polo. Jetta should be slightly more usage due to weight. My car's on 195k km and going strong.

I wouldn't, but that is only my own opinion. I do not like cars that had to have their engines replaced. No thank you. I would skip this deal.

Price is high for the mileage.

Yeah... I would say the price is high for the mileage...

I would also question why the motor was replaced at 122k... thats ridiculously early.

^this says jetta 4, but OP mentions jetta 5.
That would account for a rather large difference.

Ahhh yes, that it would.. but I would still say price is high for a vehicle with that kind of mileage, and having had those kind of issues in its life so far.

I'm always skeptical with buying a car that just had it's motor done or replaced. There's always an uncertainty as to how much of the motor was replaced and whether it was replaced with totally new parts or not.

Yup..

I mean in all honesty, I'm replacing the motor in my double cab currently.. but I have no intention of selling the vehicle ever... that and the fact that the vehicle is 13yrs old now... so a motor replacement is not unheard of at that age.

The motor was replaced before the guy I am getting it from had it. he drove it for 4 years without any problems besides the turbo and egr valve which are common diesel problems. @Fazda, it is a comfortline, not highline and is a jetta 5 not 4. @Fox1, motor was replaced by market square vw in uitenhage with a brand new motor, saw the receipt for the job, motor cost R58k, as to why it was replaced, I have no idea, all I know is the woman that had it took it to market square and the motor was replaced. that was in 2009 when it had 122k mileage. and the entire motor was replaced, top and bottom

Your TDI must certainly run on fairy poop...

Not really, I used to own a 2007 Polo TDI and considered 7l/100km high. I used to get anything between 4.8 and 6.5. The fuel consumption on those cars are ****ing amazing!

iirc the Jetta 5 was released that year. I remember because a colleage of mine came to work with a strange looking new Jetta

Go for it, it will never break down, appreciate in value and from what I have gathered in this forum it is probably better than what ever car Jesus is driving.

Good thing the one you are looking had its engine replace, at about 200,000km they sometimes tend embed their valves into the pistons.

@Fazda, yes I just double checked the papers, date of first liability is june 2006 and it most definitely is a jetta 5 1,9 tdi comfortline as it has the heated leather seats and electric windows
