Telkom is competing via its SAIX/Telkomsa divisions directly in the market with the other ISP's.

Is this fair?

I don't think so - I can recall where the Telkom/TelkomSA/SAIX link was abused by Telkom.

A good example: One has to deal with Telkom to order an ADSL line. The operator taking the call then uses a high powered salespitch to convince you that you need TelkomSA as ADSL service provider (They did this a few months ago). This is in my mind a monopoly abusing its position to the detriment of its oposition.

Another example: Telkom has an enourmous client base - due to being a monopoly. How many times have you seen ads for non-monopoly services (ISP & PABX etc) being distributed with the montly accounts?

I agree totally. The official way to do this would be to split the company into wholesale and retail divisions, like they're currently doing with Telstra in Aus.

I think it's a great idea, I don't know how feasible it would be.
