Initially I was totally against him getting any compensation. But, having followed the case in the various courts, how Vodacom made a promise to compensate him, never did, lied about it in court, even the CEO himself, I think the court dealt them the cards they deserve. Yes, he deserves the compensation promised to him. He should be rich beyond all wild imaginations.

If you invent something that has anything to do with a company that you are employed by, that invention belongs to the company

Judging by the courts Makate.

This was not in front of any court as this was never a legal dispute. Irrelevant who the inventor was. This matter dealt with the legalities of an oral promise of compensation and profit-sharing.

More than one court dealt with this matter, even the Constitutional court. It is totally irrelevant who invented the PCM. The case was about an agreement for compensation and profit-sharing. Nothing else.

Who was the original inventor ?

Who cares. It is not of importance in this case, as already confirmed by all courts, including the Constitutional court.

Any idea concieved at work for the company you work for belongs to the company. Your employment contracts tend to say that.

Also he got the idea from MTN.

So even if he wins, MTN can sue for patent infringement.

I would simply retrench a lot of staff and offer him that money saved. And say well we had to pay him so there.

maybe MTN is silent, waiting for those billions, and BAM!! Sue him. Quick Billion ZAR!

That would be funny.

You work for a company, you have an idea, you get a promotion or a bonus or something R47M??
Should be lucky to get an extra R470 at the end of the month LOL

He obviously must be compensated for his idea that the company clearly loved so much. However, billions seems insanely huge...but I haven't seen Vodacom's revenue records after his idea was implemented and also I'd imagine it'll be difficult to correlate Vodacom's revenue growth to "please call me"

I think that would be justice.

And watch his legal team quickly disappear... Unless of course, more money is to me made from that case.

In fairness though, I doubt Makate is the driving force anymore...
