I wonder how SA crime stats compare to these from IRAQ

Casualty List

I wonder if the SAPS have any sort of similar spatial database ?????

I wonder if they even have a database ( that is not being hacked by Pakistanis )

Anyone care to do the comparison -- and show that SA is actually more dangerous than IRAQ :cry:

Does anyone know what Iraq's crime levels are like? In terms of murder/GBH etc?

A large percentage of the crime in SA is not recorded anywhere. For example, I don't usually report crime unless I have to for some reason - the cops are not interested.

Stats for murder are still relevant as they have to be reported so should be pretty accurate, except in really crappy places.
I don't know how good Iraq would be at recording murder and war-related deaths though.

We don't know what percentage of rapes get reported. Pretty theft and other minor crimes don't usually get reported unless the victim can identify the suspect themselves. So the stats here are going to be very unreliable.
A more efficient police force would potentially cause these stats to be increased as more people would report them.

Unfortunately safety and security are completely contextual, so these numbers are totally sensationalist and essentially meaningless, but you asked so here they are:

______Iraq: Total Deaths______SA: Est. Deaths
2004______10554_______________19600
2005______12452 _______________19600
2006______35026_______________20090
2007______35763_______________19110
2008______11227_______________18130
2009______4010________________16660

"Iraq: Total Deaths" source Wikileaks, Total Deaths, seem to be only war related
"SA: Est. Deaths" source: Wikipedia "List of countries by international homicide rate" (Assumption Pop. 49m)

welcome to africa. human life has no value here. and the best part is they justify it by blaming colonists. lol.

OMG, I hope Wikileaks does not release this kinda information otherwise we will have 10 pages on why marine1 and Alan think its bad because its liberal media and cops in the field will be in danger2.0.

A friend from Botswana was amazed at how cheap life is in SA, there you still get hanged for murder and they have extremely low murder rates compared to us. Only idiots would be blaming our murder rate on colonialists, I haven't even heard that one from our police before.

No the preps bame historical disatvantages as exuse/easons for no values, plus it is the culture?

I heard an interesting story the other day. Assange has more dirty documents. He has encrypted them heavily and distributed them throughout the Internet. Parts of the encryption key are each held by 600 people throughout the world (the guy who told me the story is one of the holders). In the event of Assange’s suspicious death, the key would be assembled and the documents decrypted and widebanded. Checkmate. Hahahahaha!

They are doing it because Governments like the US blacklist companies when they donate to Wikileaks.

So? He has no problem releasing damaging info on others.

Clearly he's a hypocrite

I'm sure if other countries dropped the ball as badly as the US he'd be happy to upload the documents.

Did I say “Assange’s suspicious death”? My bad. Even if his death is (truly) accidental – he gets hit by a bus – the documents are still decrypted and widebanded. The only response is to not be responsible for his death and pray for his continuing good health. American carpetbaggers must be really depressed. No sharp business practise, no betrayal, no haggling or negotiation. All their usual business tools rendered ineffectual. Hahahahaha.

I was watching the news last night, and got to thinking that there should be a sort of ticker -- in the vein of the financial one that's often along the bottom of the screen -- that gives crime stats. Or a quick schedule at the end of the bulletin. Something that indicates the number of violent crimes, deaths, robberies, etc in the day. Also HIV/AIDS deaths. It would be a constant reminder and encourage people to call the government on it and take responsibility. Maybe.

Getting accurate stats would be tricky.

The stats aren't captured online AFAIK, having daily even weekly stat updates would be difficult.
