You mean other than the fact that you are paying R100 more for the same amount of plastic?

or that the DRM treats you like you are a criminal? ..and that MS and Sony are making plans to make it harder for you to watch content you have purchased on your own computer?

or that you can't use it in Linux... yet ;)

or that Sony keeps changing the specs making the players obsolete?

or that there is no competing technology yet... making it a veritable monopoly?

Remember when CDs first came out? Same story - reader was about R4k... when writers came out, they were about 4k, and blanks for R200.

Can't comment on the DRM... or on Sony changing specs....

You can buy a PC reader for 1k :)

Also, what competition is there to DVDs? Or are you refering to licensing the technology, or something like that?

yes, the DVD spec is owned by a consortium, whereas Sony pretty much controls the entire Blu-ray tech. I just don't trust them. They have shown that they do not have the consumer in mind with their willingness to put a rootkit on some of their music CDs. I reluctantly put up with the copy protection on DVDs knowing it would be cracked fairly quickly, but Sony's efforts to control what I have legally purchased scares me.

Not ecstatic about Planet Earth or Beowulf either. BD seems like a money making thing IMO and not worth the cost of rebuying titles -- I have a huge DVD library (mostly foreign Region 1's).

The trick is to read the description and specs to see the contents. Some titles is just the old version on a new media. Then others have the 7.1 channel sound and improved film specs and well as added features.

That's a fact, there is a few young twits on this forum that in the first place cannot afford it and secondly hate it because the PS3 has it build in as standard and they do not like the advanced hardware as compared to the shiite what they own.

I call them Kidiots.
