So one of the features of Showmax that really interests me is the ability to download movies or series, and to watch them later when you do not have reception or are travelling.

However, Showmax only allows you to download to main memory, and not to expanded memory (eg SD Card).

The problem is, that whereas older tablets often had 32GB or even 64GB main memory, the recent tendency has been towards 16GB, with a microSD slot which you could in theory expand with an up to 256GB microSD card.

I have a new really nice 8.4" tablet, a Samsung Galaxy Tab S, but it only has 16GB main memory, which is not really an issue as I have a 128GB microSD in the tablet.

With many Apps, this is not an issue, as they let you use microSD memory.

But Showmax doesn't, and it does not appear as if they are going to, as per this response :

Hi Jola

Thanks for getting in touch with ShowMax.

Unfortunately our web was designed in the way when you download our amazing Show's it will go directly onto your on board memory.

Please let us know if you need further assistance.

You have Marshmallow?

I know Samsung cut the feature but perhaps it's on your tablet. There's also a hack (apk) you can download to get it back.

EDIT: No apk but atleast no root required... http://www.modaco.com/news/android/...e-adoptable-storage-on-your-s7-s7-edge-r1632/

Yes, I saw that you can do that on the S7 edge, and I may do that on the S7 edge, just waiting for a 200GB Sandisk memory card that I ordered from Amazon.

But the 8.4" has a nice screen size, and I would like to do it on that. Unfortunately, it doesn't run Marsmallow, and I think that there also needs to be some hardware support that the S7 edge obviously has, but that I don't think the Tab S will have.

Oh yeah unless Samsung update it or you go the custom rom route you'll be out of luck. Don't think it's hardware dependant. You just need a fast SD card.

EDIT: if you are willing to root you can also play with Xposed modules eg. http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.pyler.xinternalsd

Well, I don't mind doing a custom rom upgrade, I will research for what is available.

But I was under the impression that there was compatible hardware involved, will check that out.
