Goodbye Showmax 1.0

MultiChoice successfully migrated nearly all its customers from the original Showmax platform to a new and improved streaming service by the same name running on technology from NBCUniversal's Peacock.

Nearly a decade after its launch, the first Showmax app was shut down on 8 February 2024.

I am on a two year contract with a then new Explora3 decoder, which was contracted partly because it included Showmax on my LG smart TV. Now, MultiChoice magnamiously offers its "valued customers" the now required Explora Ultra at a cost of R999 and a new two year contract. Really?! I shall be asking the National Consumer Commission if that is legal.

“There were a few hick-ups with the migration, however, you should be able to enjoy the #NewShowmax now across all your supported devices,” one post stated.

What's a hick-up and where does one obtain it?

It should be hiccup and I'd expect a professional company's communication department to know the difference.

Maybe they meant “f***-up.”

Really stupid that no watchlist or viewing history data is migrated at all. Not even profiles are kept.

Sadly poor bit rate and no 4K. Dark scenes are crappy....

Finished watching "Last Light" on it last night. Quality was very good for me. Started watching it last week already, but only started again two days ago because the app was giving issues. It would not do the loading sign the whole time. Finally started working again. This new app has not been without its problems to say the least.

Fine on mine. I have the 2nd Gen Tv Box though.
ja i dont understand whats going on...android tv version is fine...

'wrong country' message was also weird...i cant even find it on the app store...

Read the fine print. They might have included a paragraph indicating that Multichoice reserves the right to make technical changes from time to time, without prior notice. I know, it sucks.
