Evening all, thanks for this forum and your precious advice upfront - NOTHING as valuable as experience.

I'm sick and tired of having a perfectly looked after hardware device that is packing up after three years, only to be forced to spend another R5,000 again on a new phone, AND IM TIRED of Xiaomi's bloody built-in advertisements too (https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_9t-10661.php).

So . .

Either I import a new Google Pixel for a good price,
OR
go the Open source operating system route and wipe my phone in doing so learning a whole new OS and using it again for years to come.

PLEASE feel free to write far and wide, Il read everything.

Many thanks
Joe

The phone market is pretty trash at the moment. They are all built to last 3 years Max. The cheaper ones are filled with garbage and ads.

If you stay away from the stock Xiaomi apps, you wouldn't have any adverts.. I used to use the stock android versions of the basic as apps instead and never saw any ads on my Xiaomi..

You can turn off all the ads in 5 minutes. Some of the Xiaomi apps like the file manager are way better than the Google one...

i would say buying flagship whether new or used might be better.

My flagship is 5/6 years old now and still running fine. Battery life is dipping but speed isnt an issue.

this, even an ancient S-10 or S-20 or one of the many FE models are 100 times better than some Chinese phone that sends everything to China with compliments of the CCP.

you laugh, until it turns out to be true,
and the Chinese know what you like to eat for lunch before you do.
I really don't care if the ccp knows what I am having for lunch or the type of porn I watch..

Whether it's the ccp, google, Samsung or apple, they all have a finger up your bum the moment you start using their devices...

Pretty much a flagship phone even an older one is still a flagship

If you can afford to import the Pixel then go for that as first option, otherwise go for the Samsung A Series but make sure it has the Mediatek chipset. The S series is not worth the price tag.
