Sick speed on PtaWUG

It's easy.

Because, just like you, I also knew zip about wifi, routing, ips etc.

I'm also not in IT or have any real IT experience. But I chose not to sit back and let someone else do the job. I got my hands dirty, helped on highsites and started learning how it all works.

But you are not in my debt, you clearly dont grasp the PTAWUG concept. Everything you do for PTAWUG is for free. No one owes anyone anything, that is why moaning about speeds on a forum shows that you dont have the community - ptawug spirit. But it's OK , once you get the concept, all will be well.

Let me give it one last shot. If I still fail to get my point across after this then I give up: In my previous few posts, I repeatedly offered my services to the WUG community. I'll carry your tools and equipment up and down the mountainside. I'll dig holes and tighten nuts. I'll bring you coffee and samies. I'll clean up after you. I'll risk my life by climbing up precarious poles to fix antennas. I'll drive around collecting and delivering anything you might require. If all of that is not enough, I'll contribute financially towards upgrading any hardware that might be required to get the highsite upgraded. Also, I'm not merely saying any of this just to look good in public. I mean it. Tell me where and how to help and I'll be there. What more do you want from me?!

You installed your kit and it works, you did it right, so you have the basic knowledge to write a few things down that you struggled with - 172.20.1.1 is a wiki, anyone can edit, thus others can/will help with answers/help. You need to try.

Goto 172.20.1.1 click on To Do List, add name and email there.

The sector, radio, pigtail, lmr has been bought long time ago, not on that financial page anymore.

Obviously it itches a lot, you need to scratch. Just ask an admin to move it over for you, your LAN IP's stays the same. Wie nie waag nie, wen nie.

To do this you need to be backboned (grid to grid) to two highsites, or a highsite and another user.

If you have not tried to move over to the other sector, you have not made an effort. You need to initiate this action.

where ? remember that myBB is not PTAWUG's internal communication medium. It is IRC and the wiki.

Still not getting the concept.

There is no carrying "your" equipment. There is no "offering" of services. Just do it. (It has been mentioned, that we have a nice wiki where everyone adds to the to-do list and the wug calendar). There is no you and I, there is no "We decide what happens and you follow". There is no cleaning up after me. There is no wanting anything from anyone.

The wug exists because people do stuff. And these people are anyone.

I am continuing to post here as, to be honest, I only care about those people who might be reading this, getting a misconception about how stuff works on the wug based on your comments and choice of words.

Information flows freely on PTAWUG. We have many users who do nothing, and that is OK.

There is no elite team who gets all the glory, there is no team who gets to make decisions.

There is no hierarchy. We only have a bunch of people acting as admins, to administer the technical side of the network.

You don't need a mensa card to be able to help or edit a wiki. We have 13 year olds editing our wiki! You don't need to be a genius to put on cable ties.

Words like:"recourse" , "in-debt", "debit order", "vindictive", "subscription" currently have no place or meaning in the PTAWUG culture.

It is really easy and fun to be a part of PTAWUG.
 
Hi Louis. You're right; I'm still not getting it. At first I offered financial support to help maintain and improve the WUG but was rebuffed. Then I offered my (admittedly very limited) services in the form of manual labour but was again told that this is also against the WUG culture and that I should "just do it". Like that shoe company, Nike? :D

So I guess I should just rock up unannounced at the Waverley highsite one morning with a shifting spanner and a hammer, climb up the mast, smack the antenna a couple of shots and then drive home and see if this improved my signal. Just do it, right?

Nah, just pulling your leg. This was my last take on this subject. I'm walking away from this thread somewhat wiser but, alas, still slightly confused and sadly not really "getting it". Thanks for your valuable feedback. It was a pleasure. I trust we'll meet each other on the WUG sometime.
