Making my own hamburgers for dinner and need alternatives for side dishes.

Don't want to make chips/fries and already got salad on the list.

Any ideas ? Thanks

hot dogs and bbq chicken. :D

My favourite sides are cole slaw, potato salad, and some proper baked beans

EDIT: "Proper baked beans" the easy way
3 14-ounce cans of beans
1 1/2 onions, minced
1/2 cup + 2 to 3 Tbsp ketchup
1/3 molasses or more to taste
slab bacon, cut in cubes

Rinse beans in colander until water runs clear.
Cook onions until they wilt, either in a bit of oil in sauté pan or in microwave at full power for several minutes.
Mix all ingredients together and cook all day on low setting of slow cooker.

If you're making your own burgers please remember that the only bread you use are the buns and the only onion you use goes on top - neither belong in the patty. Same goes for egg!

If you need a side dish you did it wrong but you may consider tempura onion rings.

Why ?

I buy the patties, so not homemade. Buy them from a butcher and grill at home.

Home made potato wedges.

A salad if you want always adds a bit of health to the meal.

We made our own cheddar-melt sauce for our burgers ... normal cheese/white sauce with plenty of mushrooms (fry mushrooms in butter).

Wedges ... peel potatoes, cut into wedges and boil. Preheat oven to 220 - 260. Olive oil and season wedges with Robertson's Mediterranean spice and bake until golden brown.

salad with a burger? no man thats not right. cheese burger, fries and a milkshake. perfection

Easier said than done? I prefer the grilled flavour and hence tend to do them on the weber. Problem is that without crumbs/bread and/or egg they fall apart when trying to turn them over.
I do enjoy a bit of onion in the patty though, as well as some chillies. I'm all ears to any tips / recipes that may be offered?

As long as you use a good quality mince with plenty of fat in it there's no need for anything to 'bind' it. PnP's lean or regular mince works perfectly. I've yet to have a patty disintegrate. :)

+1, they key is not to try and turn it too soon. Leave it for about 2 minutes, then turn for the first time.

I started out with extra lean, then moved towards lean. Used to add some pork mince too, actually made a great difference, but due to my current eating plan I am supposed to eliminate as much fat as possible ( but thats another discussion for another day).
I am going to try without the onion, and see if that helps with the binding - thanks Bwana.

i make it with that too and it tastes yummy. most recipes tell you to put it in for the exact reasons u mentioned. would like to see a breadless, onionless and eggless recipe..
