Sigma DP1

Two things I didnt like about it when I read about it the other day - first us the fixed focal length and second the hot shoe viewfinder that apparently costs extra.
 
It's the smallest size camera for a chip like that, but has a fixed lens. I think it's great for people who want to take landscape shots and want something small. (on a hike or something) But, the Canon G9 has a zoom lens. I would never go for the DP1.

Just get the Sigma SD14. It has the same chip and is an SLR. Much better priced camera. Plus it's SLR. Duh. http://www.wholesaledigital.co.za/sd14.htm
 
I read a review on the DP1 today in Amateur Photographer magazine. Thought I'd share a short paragraph with you guys:

"Sigma has adopted a minimalist approach to the specification of the DP1, but the company isn't aiming for mass-market appeal. It has enthusiasts who understand how to interpret a scene and use a metering system firmly in its sights. Consequently, the DP1 has no automatic scene options and exposure modes are limited to those that will appeal most to a photographer who wants to take control. These are augmented by automatic exposure bracketing and exposure compensation to ±3EV in 1/3EV steps. In addition, focus may be achieved automatically using the nine-point contrast detection system, or manually."

Manual focus on a P&S - fancy that :D

Sadly it doesn't have a live histogram. It does shoot raw though.
 
I see dpreview.com now has a full review of the Sigma DP1.

I'm a bit disappointed at the colour output - I hope this could be fixed with a firmware update. Looks interesting otherwise. I'm also somewhat amused that they never compare it to the G9.
