Sign on bonus

Quick question, when a contract says you're liable to pay back some or all of a sign on bonus if you leave within a given a period does that pay back include the tax?

If you must pay the tax back is it claimable from sars. Asking for a friend (of course).

I would assume you'd pay the including tax amount back to them, and this would be reflected on your IRP5, so you'll end up getting the extra tax paid back when you do your tax return.
