Signal more stable after Rain

Last night my modem connects to Helderkruin tower. Two days ago the signal was so unreliable from there that my modem disconnected every 15 min. (Even after I downgraded my Firmware)

Last night my modem refuses to connect the Horizon View again, and connects to Helderkruin, and I think, "Great, disconnections every 15 min again..."

Horror shock. My modem only disconnected once at 0:45 this morning - reconnected and stayed connected until this morning.

So I wonder... Could the rain have "fixed" the tower to some degree? Could static electricity be causing havoc on the towers? Will the unstable signal return tonight?
 
Hmmm, interesting take on the situation. I wonder if static could be playing a role?

Lastnight my speed sucked by the way. some useless info.

Maybe the rain just washed all the dirt of pollution and dust off the tower's antennas? :-)

koffiejunkie: I was going to suggest the same thing ... but it's not so much the dust of the antennas (as signal is strongest there) .. but more the dust in the air ...

After most dry periods you can usually see a lot of muddy splash marks after the 1st rain .. just look at your car [:)] ... and since dust is solid, and in huge quantities, it could have affected the wave signals...

Yeah, my car was white, now it looks like a bleached leopard.

I wonder how much effect gasses and all the carbon monixide (?) in the air has on signal in general. My cellphone reception in the flat is usually very poor - I have to stand outside. But last night it was a lot better than usual.

Urm, if its the crap in the air, why did i get a signal varying between 0 and 7% to Helderkruin (2.6km) but a stable (2%) signal bounced to Horizon View (2.4km + who knows where I'm bouncing it from)???? Hmmm? Makes you think?
 
don't even think of blaming nature. it's sucktech's incompetance plain and simple

I remember seeing a product on the market some time ago, for Wireless LAN's. It was a spray that you prayed the air between the computers to improve the transmission of signal and remove static, dust etc.

So maybe the dust does cause a problem
 
More likely the rain just washed all the dropped packets off the antennaes and out the towers

MW, makes proton decay look fast.

Hehe, Im NOT blaming nature... Nature has managed to fix stuff ST can not... Lets say its static: Then ST shouldve added the neccessary to prevent the buildup.. Hehe, like a tennis ball on the end of the aerial. Urm, no wait. But seriously, parantly the little plastic nob on the end of a car's aerial is to prevent static buildup - if its gone, the radio's reception can suffer. (This from a car service manual of a few years ago)
 
well they use sectorised panels on the high sites. so not quite aerials as such. this is nonsense anyway. the entire structure must be ground for lightning etc (well it is directly attached to ground..) so static is a non-issue. static requires friction so what kind of idiot goes around rubbing the towers?

pure coincidence if you ask me. they fixed what they broke as the rain ended.
 
Can it be that all the dust and gasses in the air is has a static charge of sorts?

/me claims little or know knowledge of static matters :-)

Just a casual observation, during the winter I shocked myself every time I got out of the car. After the first rain came that doesn't happen anymore

As far as I know, charged particles such as dust can transfer their charges to something else, like a antenna panel with a faulty earth, over plenty of weeks. YES, it is VERY unlikely.

Getting shocked when you get out of the car is because of your clothes rubbing against the seats though. The moisture in the air in the summer tends you "earth" you - so you get shocked less - to the point where you will not notice.

I was being sarcastic about comparing panel antennae to car aerials from the 70s - getit? Giving trouble... Read book from 70s to cure problem...
