Signal-related contract

I recently moved to a new place in Constantia, Cape Town and I have zero Vodacom signal and unfortunately I have a Vodacom contract.

I have since found an MTN sim card, RICA'd it and told all my friends it's my new number. (There's MTN signal in my house)

So my dilemma: My Vodacom contract is due for upgrade in 6 days. Should I upgrade to get the phone, or should I wait the last 4 months and then open a contract with MTN?
Do any other providers piggyback off MTN, so I can have some sort of choice in the matter?
 
Let VC know about the issue - since you're not in the sticks they might put up a tower in the area.
 
remember if you upgrade after 20 months & then sign another 24 month contract, the new contract will effectively be 28 months....

How sure of this are you? As I've always understood it (I could be wrong) the new contract is 24 months from when you sign and replaces the existing contract ie both parties agree to early termination of existing contract.

Otherwise, seeing as I'm on my 3rd VC contract, this one should only expire after 32 months?

8ta uses mtn where they don't have signal.

It was discussed here on the forum with either VCdata or OCleRoux.
Was a while back & posting from my cell. & that what I said above was the answer.
They don't write-off those 4 months, you after all agreed to them by signing the original contract.
They might let you renew 20 months after signing again, but try see what your cancelation will come too....

I am not sure what Vodacom's policy is but went into Vodacom (After being on my 2nd 24 month stint with them) and they said my contract expires 4 months from my upgrade date and i would be able to convert to PrePaid from then.

The person who owns the land I am on is Pam Golding (my great aunt), and we've been through the signal thing before. Nobody in the area I am in uses cellphones, only landlines as my dad asked 5 years back if they could install an antenna with no luck.

Yep, it's the same with MTN as I discovered earlier this year, did an upgrade in Feb 2 years ago and was contemplating next upgrade went to MTNSP only to find out was only due for upgrade in April cause of carry-overs from to previous early upgrades and contact on expires in July. Decided to let contract run to end before doing another upgrade.

I am a tad confused by this as my parents have both been with MTN for 14 years and they've had an upgrade every 18 months...?

It's not about the upgrade frequency but the duration to contract expiry.
