Cape Town - It has been revealed that the standout province in terms of Democratic Alliance growth is the Eastern Cape where the party could garner 26.6% of the vote in the upcoming elections – a significant increase on its 2009 showing of 9.9%, reported the Sunday Times.

Citing a survey commissioned by the newspaper and conducted by Ipsos, the report said the collapse of the Congress of the People (Cope) in the province had probably contributed to this increase.

Eastern Cape DA leader Athol Trollip said last week that the ANC is in for a shock in the province in this election. Although the survey suggests a 16.7% gain, Ipsos says this is unlikely but that the party will secure at least 15% of votes in the province.

All our hard work from the team here in the EC is paying off. We are also one of the least supported provinces by DA national. A large amount of money is sent to provinces that are "borderline" provinces. Provinces the DA has a chance of winning. The EC was is not considered one of those, so all our door to door canvassing, the rallies we organize and the blue waves we start are almost always done on our own time and money.

Hope the hard work pays off in the elections. My wife is from the ECape, and her relatives say the DA has a real chance to take PE.

Awesome news. Makes me wish that everyone that thinks that the DA has no hope, and therefore doesn't vote, would actually vote.

Yeah, they need to bring on 2016. There are going to be a lot of municipalities gained. I think the last municipal election for NMM was close. Many of the local DA public representatives are currently working 8AM-9PM just about every day here.

I can see the DA taking the Western Cape [a bit obvious], the Eastern Cape and Gauteng. Doubt they will be able come any where near taking Natal but would be great if they can up their stakes there.

I dont think we will win the EC this elections... but at least we will have more seats which means we can hold local government a little bit more accountable.

My predictions are Western Cape will stay DA, Eastern Cape will grow but remain ANC. I think Gauteng is a swing province. It really can go either way in the elections. There is a small chance of the DA getting the Northern Cape as well.

So for people living in Gauteng. You are a swing province. Every vote kinda does matter.

I fon't think that they can take the Eastern Cape. The rural areas are strongly DA.

In 2016 I can see them taking NMBM. They are only a few seats short at the moment.

I think that the DA are only experiencing growth in percentage terms - half the population of the EC are refugees in CT.
