Patricia De Lille, Independent Democrat leader, wants blogs to be more closely monitored and has even suggested that stern legal action must be taken against bloggers posting defamatory statements.

De Lille seems to prefer to dish out the criticism but when it’s her turn to take a bit of flak in the world of open and free debate, she wants to cry foul.

The very laws that allow her to openly attack the ANC also give bloggers the right to give their opinion, well-informed or not.

Blogs generally consist of personal opinions which means heavy handed censorship at a state level, one of De Lille’s less informed suggestions, is tantamount to denying South Africans freedom of expression.
