How silent are these "Silent" generators.

I see they quote 67 decibels?

Looking at a enclosed diesel genny for the house, but don't want something that makes a noise like my neighbors cheapy.

If you want silent you looking for inverter genny but they gonna cost you.

Example
2 Kva Inverter genny = around R10 000-R12 000
2 Kva Plain Genny = around R4 000-R6 000

Good housing can normally drop sound 10 - 30 db depending on mats used.

I would say buy normal and use extra cash for proper housing with proper baffling to muffle the sound. For me that was not an option as I stay in a complex, so opted for Inverter and battery set-up instead.

They are not silent but they are better than the typical one you can hear 5 houses away. 67db is decent as well as the typical open gennie is over 100db.

My 2.8kva isn't actually that loud you can have a conversation over it. My 900kva is a few dB higher. But guess it's 2 stroke vs 4 stroke.

One of these?
Comparrison

But yeah build a housing for it like @Grouter did ova here and you should be fine.

Diesel or petrol?

I doubt that building an enclosure will be happening.

Thinking of putting it in the garage with exhaust to outside.

What on earth are you doing with a 900kva? 1300Amps per phase can power your whole street and then some. :D

900w sorry phone does funny things when I swipe and early morning I don't double check :)

I had a look at the soundproofed gens we deal with and the smallest one (8kVA) has the following acoustic reports:

Note the 87dB is recorded right next to the motor.

So point being, you can get some very quiet gens if you go for the soundproofing option.

Got a Honda 4-stroke petrol. 3m from the generator it is a muted purr. Cost R42k a few years back

I was unpleasantly surprised at just how loud and irritating a generator is. I'm gonna try improve the situation with these. Might be useful for you too?
