The stock cooler on my Intel i5 750 died recently.
I have replaced it with an akasa X4, which is doing the cooling job quite well.
The noise levels are driving me mad, however.

Can anyone advise something that will do a good job of cooling and be substantially quieter than this thing?
It sounds like I have a boeing prepping for take-off here :(

Cooler master V8. Fan is set to auto (though it has a manual dial as well) and you can barely hear it. Though it is a bit on the expensive side but it is one of the better air coolers out there. How big is your case, it plays a big role in deciding what cooler to go for

I recently got the Arctic cooling freezer pro rev2, decent and quiet.

get yourself the Coolermaster Hyper 620...bit expensive, but does the job really well...has got 2 fans on the heatsink, but its as quite as you can get... got blue LED's , is huge, but well worth your money...its for AMD and Intel

Nice cooler, also have it... mine runs @100% all the time. Can't hear it over my GTX280 cooler!! But I will agree with everyone else about the Hyper 212. Great value for money....

Never go over 1200rpm in winter, and not over 1500 in summer. Temps are a max of 18 degrees above ambient, so really no need to run it at 100%

I have my Q6600 OC'd to 3.0ghz, plus I live in Pinetown, never cold!!! Well almost with the exception of the last 2-3 weeks! So I try maintain my cores to under 50C. When its hot here, They go up to 55C.
