So I see the transaction fees for debit orders and smaller ATM withdrawels have gone up from from R5.35 to R5.85 since the 1st of Jan. They always send me other e-mails, they could have at least let me know about this fee increase.

This just means I will be placing all my debit orders over to Capitec (R2.50 per debit order) sooner, rather than a slower staggered approach. I'll then close my personal savings account with them (getting no interest anyway).

I was thinking of all that work I had to do, but now I see this on the Capitec website:

Easy steps to change your bank account:
Open a Capitec Bank account, called the Global One Banking Facility.
Give your new banking details, such as the account number and branch code, to your personnel department and ask them to pay your salary into the new account. We will give you a letter containing all the relevant information.

Easy steps to change your debit orders:
Give us a copy of your current bank statement, as this will show all the debit orders on your account.
We will assist you in changing these debit orders.
Please note that it is your responsibility to check on your new Capitec Bank statement that all these debit orders did go off at the end of the first month. If not, please ask a Capitec Bank consultant to assist you with this.
We advise you to keep your old bank account active for a month or two to allow for debit orders that may not have been changed in time.

YAY! :D

ever since they so kindly gave me a credit card over 2 or 3 yrs ago they have still not got my address right and send my statement to my work address. i tried to get them to get it right for about a year till i gave up. frikken useless.

I will not even bother keeping the personal savings account open for long, it will just suck R7 a month just for being open while not getting interest to cover it. At least with Capitec they give you 10% interest and that will cover most of the costs probably.

the funny thing is i don't even have a savings account anywhere yet i have 2 credit cards.

+1. According to them the area code 2050(near wits) does not exist...thus they always send it to moer and gone and I receive my statements about 2 months later. I have tried to sort this out THREE times with no success! SSB might just convince me to switch over to capitec as well :)

yip, as we shut down over xmas i don't get my statement and if i don't pay they want to get nasty with me and make me pay a penalty. i just pay what my last statement said.

essentially that's a bad idea try to pay more then the basic minimum which is what the statements ask for. Be smart about it and at the very least pay back what you have spent within the month and the minimum so that you keep them happy and your credit rating won't get such a hammering.

hmm something to think about there, thanks man.

Can't you view your statements online (internet banking)? Virgin Money sends me a statement via e-mail with a security thing.

Where is your salary payed into? You said you only have CCs.

Anyway, can't wait to make the move. I'm gonna go get a bank statement next Saturday from SB and then take it to Capitec and tell them to make it so the debit orders and my salary go there end of Feb (I think there might be a hassle if I try for this month)
