I need to install windows on a laptop which will be running an OOB Silverlight app. and that's it. Is there any reason not to install Windows 7 Starter apart from the 2GB / 32bit limitations ? Can anybody confirm that Silverlight works properly in Windows 7 Starter before I waster my money ?

Note: Linux / Moonlight is not an option as we use a USB Device with the Silverlight App. which has Windows drivers and libraries only.

The only hit I get that says Windows 7 Starter and Silverlight do not go together is this

and I doubt that is correct (?).

Silverlight works in Windows 7 Starter, all the services available are identical to Windows 7 Home Basic, at least when it comes to actually running a program. All you need is to be running Internet Explorer 9 or later, or the latest versions of Chrome or Firefox.

There's no reason not to install Starter, but it is such a stripped-down experience compared to Home Basic that I wonder if its worth running at all. I'd much rather sink the money into a Windows 8.1 Core license if you're buying a license.

Just download it from Microsoft, you should be able to use it for a month to check. If you do not want to format the machine, use a VM.
