Silversands/3 Piggs Poker with wine on linux?

I managed to get Silver Sands to install and run under wine after first using winetricks to grab the corefonts and mfc42 libraries. The lobby opens and I'm able to join tables, but the program soon after freezes.

I tried to install 3 Piggs Poker but the installer just comes up with a blank screen.

I was wondering if anyone else has had success in installing and running either of the above poker software?

Why not try virtualbox? create a windows machine and run it in 'seamless mode', you will easily forget that you're running a virtual machine.

No BSODs that reboot your PC this way either.

I can also recommend the above setup... except of course obviously that it requires running Windows, even if it is virtual... I run a vbox with XP on it for my web development and it actually runs pretty fast.... and doesn't give a 10th of the problems it would give running natively.

Would it not be a waste of memory and resources for just a few apps? I'm running Ubuntu Intrepid on a laptop here with 2 gb of memory.

Not really. You can set the memory allocated to the VM... and I easily run all my standard Linux applications together with an 800MB VM, although you can take it to as low as 256MB without having issues (depending on the required RAM for the apps you want).

Anyone managed to get silversands running under wine? I'm having it crash on me when it gets to the flop, just continues to deal the same three cards in an infinite loop. Unfortunately windows is not really an option (I doubt I could justify my company buying me a windows license just to play poker)

I'm running Piggs under Wine, however the installer won't work. You can however use a dual boot into windows or VM and install it there, then just run mppoker.exe from linux and it runs fine. The are a few bugs I've noticed: the tooltips don't disappear, so try not to hover over anything with the mouse. Also noticed recently that when I open a table it exits the table immediately, then I have to join it again for it to work.
