Greetings

last week a neighboring complex to us had a youngish white guy in an old white Nissan Sentra arrive at their gate at about 4AM. In the 90 seconds he stayed he cut the bolts on their intercom box, cracked it open, and stole the sim card before taking off. Apparently this is a regular thing he does. If the sim is not canceled immediately according to the cops you can shortly expect massive bills of up to R50 000 as the guy uses the sim's unlimited airtime on gambling sites that pay him out in cash or something like that.

Apparently there are limitations you can put on your Gate's sim card so I would recommend doing that. There are also armored helmet like shields you can install over the intercom's that would stop him being able to access the sim in the first place.

Just a heads up for those living in complexes with no guards at the gate.

Huh? Did we have to know his race? What's him being white got to do with the said crime? Or am I missing something?

Which makes it more compulsory to put a PIN on the SIM...

If you put a SIM without a PIN in a public place, you deserve to be reamed.

Amen, like those sims stolen from the traffic cameras.

@NiTeD: Yeah the race of the chap was an unncessary detail. Unless the OP can share some more info other than what car and race he was.

Yeah and why tell us the color of his car or the make... Stop trying to make this thread into a debate.

I don't agree, this information is crucial if you want to keep an eye out for this chap !!!

It could be quite important for when you see someone checking out your gate access.

That will be all sim cards, cellphones, laptops, modems and telemetry.
Lock it as soon as its stolen.
Its also not isolated to this "white" guy...

Get over yourself.

OT: SIM protection is available and people that don't use the security features that are available to them are just asking for trouble. These SIM thieves will take you to the cleaners via the bill you will receive from the Service Provider. Don't expect the bill to be waived either...

Race is part of the description of the perpretator. Just as rasta hair would be part of the description. Nothing wrong with it. Stop being so politically sensitive. Seriously.
