SIM Cards Have Finally Been Hacked

I wonder if the sims we use in SA are also susceptible to being hacked.

"The two-part flaw, based on an old security standard and badly configured code, could allow hackers to remotely infect a SIM with a virus that sends premium text messages (draining a mobile phone bill), surreptitiously re-direct and record calls, and — with the right combination of bugs — carry out payment system fraud.

Payment fraud could be a particular problem for mobile phone users in Africa, where SIM-card based payments are widespread."

Well if 750 million can be hacked in one minute that is rather scary .

Capitec is good though, you have to validate via phone and interwbes .

Not Capitec mobile, though. You only need to get a person's sim/phone and mobile pin (i.e. if the person has mobile banking activated). With the sim and pin you can quickly scam a person's money.

I've always wondered why Capitec make use of the encrypted code they sent you via internet banking but not mobile banking.
