With such a high fraud rate in SA, you would think service providers would do as much as they can to protect their customers. I lost my phone on Wednesday night, and didn't call in immediately as know I have cap on account and kept calling number and it was off. To my amazement when finally went for swim swop on Friday and put sim in got a messages from Vodacom about call usage and final one about suspicion of fraud. I immediately called and was told account is over R9k. I queried about call CAP seems that to have one doesn't protect consumer at all. So what is the use rather use PREPAID. How can from a R450 cap, I have bill of 10K.

also why doesnt the provider, send out alert emails as they normally send account via e-mail addresses as well. one could have access to internet on computer and could pick up these things.

SO WHAT DOES CAP REALLY MEAN??? if one is not protected!!!!

Im outraged, if loosing loyal customers in this way is what they looking to achieve by not meeting customers half way, then that is what is going to happen. I am in media space, I will let people know what CAP really means!!!

Sounds like you on Vodacom. My limit on MTN works as advertised.

Edited:Only saw forum section now.

They intentionally make things as obfuscated as possible. So your call limit was probably in place, but the bill limit wasn't, so data whacked your account for six. Vodacom then glibly refer to the limits as their fantastic method of OOB prevention. Very underhanded of them...

The prepaid offer is also so much more competitive than contracts. Free minutes etc don't mean much these days.
