Sim lock question.

My dog chewed my D500 Samsung phone 2 years ago.Ive just had repaired,put in a Vodacom PP sim and switched on.It comes up with a message "sim lock"
and asks for a code I presume?? Never had this before,does this mean the phone is locked to MTN network only ?
I previously used MTN..

Could it be locked from trying the code too many times and you need the PUK to undo it.

Ah,managed to get it..8x zero`s ! I was making things way more complicated than needed.
