I phoned MTN to get the R199 sim only deal , only to be told I don't qualify , because of credit rating. ( i don't have bad credit I have no credit for last couple of years, therefore low score )
I even offered to pay the R2400 upfront , no go , system says declined.

Is there no more common sense left , I don't want a phone that cost same as a small car on credit , just the Sim.
How much risk can it be ?

Ask them to check on the top up version of that...

Do you have a cheque account? If not, get one. With a cheque account you get a credit record in no time. Get the lowest package if you dont need much of the benefits. Make sure that account do not go into a negative.

A month or 2 later you can apply for a contract again.

Open up an Edgar's account, buy on credit and pay it off quickly.

Sorry man. I had the same experience with Cell C when I started working. I opened a credit card to get a credit record.
