A friend of mine was a victim of MTN prepaid sim swap fraud recently, but blocked his bank acc in time, so no losses.
The lady at MTN told him to rather take out a small contract on his prepaid MTN nr when he gets it back; as it is much more difficult to do a sim swap on a nr under contract?
Please give your personal experiences and opinions.

They will tell you anything just to get you to sign a contract.
Had similar issues not too long ago.

Solution: get the call centre to flag your prepaid number. That means no one will be able to sim swap without answering the security question correctly.

I noticed MTN use fingerprint scanners to authenticate you before they process any changes on your contract

get a decent cheap data only SIM contract

can concur, swapping numbers on prepaid with MTN is a nightmare, and I had to do it twice,
number you phone does nothing, sim swap can only be done at one of 5 and only 5 MTN shops in the Western cape,

something to do with the system they use not being set up properly for it,

hopefully I blocked and did everything right, but so far dont see anything weird on my accounts, but one never knows with the criminals at MTN

..and the criminals at MTN it is.
When I did a sim swap at their Northgate branch in 2023, I had my bank account raided and several accounts set up in my name and ID number which took me months to sort out.
Lesson - never touch MTN. Stay far away.

This sim swop scam/ theft has been going on for 20 YEARS.
Cell phone outfits and banks have done sweet fek all about it.

So the manager at Mtn told my friend that all sim swaps now can only be done via the finger print scanner. If not, the clerk might be corrupt....
