I recently upgraded from a blackberry bold 9300 to a samsung galaxy s3. Was looking forward to using the phone only to discover that my sim from my blackberry does not fit in my samsung. I live in zeerust and I have already checked for a vodacom dealer in zeerust, which there is none (got my phone in Mafikeng). There are shops that sell vodacom products like clicks but I seriously doubt they can help. My question is where can I go to do a sim swap + do I have to pay extra for a new sim?

I cut mine using this template:

No problems.

To get a sim swap you have to go to an official vodacom outlet.

A lot of cellular shops have a cutter than converts your sim into a micro sim. The device is like a big stapler so not much risk of messing it up.

Check with any dedicated cellular store.

Cutting your sim might seem a little daunting at first but it is really easy. I have done it many times and my friends have also done it and I haven't heard of anyone making mistakes. Just cut with scissors using template and then finish off edges with nail file to make fit. If there is an issue then you were going to buy a new sim anyways.

A friend of mine got a brand new Lumia 920 and still had a large SIM card. He asked the Vodacom Shop to cut it to a mini SIM as they had a SIM cutter on hand. So they did this and managed to get it working with the phone.

Phone calls were working just fine, but data was not working. They tried to look up APN's and couldn't find anyway listed. They manually tried to setup and APN, and it wouldn't allow them to set one up. A "setup APN" button would show up for a few seconds but then disappear very quickly.

They took their phone back thinking it was faulty, but they swapped out the "cutted mini SIM" for a new miniSIM. After that, everything was working with data. Didn't have to setup anything.

So the SIM cutter or the person cutting the SIM obviously damaged the SIM or data side of the SIM.
