If you don’t like the traditional Mobile Connect software accompanying your Vodacom mobile internet device and you also don’t want to use just the straight windows dialer for access because you need more information and functionality then I have a tool to recommend for you. It is a bit complex at first sight but works out of the box and can alleviate some connectivity issues if you use it properly.
The program is called MWconn and can be downloaded here. Once installed you will have a configuration shortcut to set it up initially and there after you will have a shortcut for GPRS and faster mobile connections and then a shortcut that will automatically find whatever is available. It is simple, small and easy to use. If you tweak it a little you can do most of what VMC can do without the bulk.
It comes in a tiny executable of just under half a MB and will not punch holes in system performance.
The mini window gives you important connectivity information and even has an optional beep output for signal strength, network changes and tower changes. The list of functionality is actually quite staggering with some extra features including PC remote control by SMS and incoming call, SMS transmission by batch job, timer for program end or shutdown and a terminal for data card commands to name but a few.
