Okay so having problems with exchange 2003 disconnecting client pc's.
When I go onto the exchange it shows services running.
Im trying to simulate a reboot

net stop MSExchangeES
net stop IMAP4Svc
net stop POP3Svc
net stop RESvc
net stop MSExchangeSRS
net stop MSExchangeMGMT
net stop MSExchangeMTA
net stop MSExchangeIS /Y
net stop MSExchangeSA /Y

But unfortunately whenever I start the services again, the outgoing mail never comes in. Internal mails works fine.
Am I missing something here?

The SMTP service is part of IIS and is not specifically exchange related. You would need to restart the following service as well..

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)

Thanks going to try that.
Would you advise against the method at all? It seems better than a reboot of the whole server every day..

Restarting a few services would generally be better than rebooting the whole server. It's a bit concerning that you have to do either to be honest. Are you running any other services on that server?

Symantec Backup Exec, SQL server. Its exchange 2003, im almost certain the problem is due to the mailboxes exceeding the limits. But until the IT clerk archives the older mailboxes, I don't think I have any other choice but to restart. Have already done the registry hack for the exchange.

Event Logs will be your friend in this case. If it's mailboxes exceeding the limits (or the company's mailbox in total) then it would say so. A simple restart of services shouldn't bring it back up, it should still say it exceeded the limits and refuse.

There's a registry "hack" you can do to increase the limit. I haven't worked in exchange 2003 since 2005/6. But I had to do that for 1 company that went above the 15gb limitation.

My gut feel is that it's not the limit though, since you didn't mention checking the event log of the UI for exchange to see what the problem is, just that you reboot when it happens
