Hey guys, if I connect my 3G card whilst I am still connected to my corporate network which also allows internet access via a proxy server; will I be able to websurf and which connection will it automatically use...

Thanks

It will automatically use the 3G.

Local connection gets priority over a networked connection. There are however ways to change all of that...

do you know if there is any software out there that can block 3G connections when automatically connecting to a LAN? We have laptop users that are blocked from accessing specific sites, however they then plug in their 3G card and surf, whilst still on the corporate network.

how would you also change the priority?

Would like to see the solution to this, im sure it is possible we have ways that we do it but using proxy and such to ensure that when connected to the network anything not allowed by the proxy is blocked even when 3G is being used

To change the priority of connections you can set the metric of the device. The lower the metric the higher the priority for using that interface. If you want to use specific ip's for specific interfaces then you will have to change the routing table.

If you're on windows 7 the following may be relevant,

1. Click the Start Button
2. Right Click "Network" and then left Click Properties
3. From the "Network And Sharing Center" window click "Change Adapter Settings"
4. On the "Network Connections" window, press the ALT key on your keyboard to being up the menu bar
5. Click the "Advanced" menu and then "Advanced Settings"
6. In the "Advanced Settings" window you will see the "Adapters and Bindings" tab and under "Connections" you will see the order they are in, you can use the arrows to the side to move the connection priority up and down.

I have sort of similar issue. Had me in spin for days. I got the K3765 modem from VC . Installed software and tried to connect. I couldn't browse. My old E220 worked with no problems though. Then I realised the K3765 connects as a network connection and not Dial up ( like the E220). There was a proxy conflict as correctly statedby another forumite . I disabled the work proxy settings and it worked. But a bit tedious to everytime change my connection setting on IE. As a workaround ( not a bad workaround I might add ) I installed Firefox 4 and use that for surfing via 3G and left IE for work.
Just out of interest how would I get around something like that assuming I could only use IE ?

I'd just write a batch file to change my proxy settings in the registry. There is commercial software to swap IP settings and proxies for IE. Freeware you may want to look at using Foxyproxy on firefox ( IE and Chrome support "soon" ) that can do IP-based detection and proxy switching

Seems FuLL_MeT4L beat me to it.
Glad it worked for you DUFC.

There are plenty of 3rd party software options available for your problem, some even free. (As mentioned by PsyWulf)
Sadly, the native Windows 7 options are few and iffy in that regard.

If I were you however, I would simply create separate user profiles (logon usernames) for work and home. Would also help to keep things a little cleaner in the work account, and vice-versa.
