Hi all,

So I used to have dstv via cable, "single LNB" so to speak, with a signal splitter plugging into the two LNB IN ports on the back of the dual view decoder. Worked fine, with the exception that a couple of channels couldn't display on TV2.

Things changed, so I went for the R599 dstv special mostly for the dish, as I was going to keep on using the dual view decoder. However, I just got a SD PVR from a friend, but the same single LNB setup as above is not working, just keeps looking for signal.

So my question is this: is it possible to simulate a twin LNB on the SD PVR as with the dual view, or do you need a physical twin LNB, dual cable feed coming from the dish?

As far as I know you have to get a twin or quad LNB from the dish. I think quads will become more of a requirement as we move to 1080p, whenever that may be, or if you want two HD PVR decoders to perform the function of a current SD PVR (watch 2 channels record 1 at same time) Pricing was close for a quad or dual.

Rumor has it that there is a HD PVR coming with all those features, but its going to need some "bandwidth". Have no clue what the requirements will be...

You are going to need a twin LNB for a sd pvr to function correctly. The dual views software caters for single LNB setups but the sd pvr does not. This is by design so if you watching a channel on the vertical feed and the pvr needs to record a channel on the horizontal feed then it won't bomb out and miss recordings

Thanks for the responses guys, I was hoping to get away with the current config, but if I need to change the LNB, so be it :)

The SD PVR's hardware is actually the problem here. It has 2 inputs, but 3 tuners (2 viewing and 1 record) and for this reason it has an internal multiswitch. Single LNB setup will cause endless problems. Get that second feed into the decoder.
