So this morning's traffic was super fun due to the sinkhole that closed the entire road. Anyone happen to get a picture of it?
Which road?
Pity google street view take a while to update![]()
Lol. You wanna see the hole via Google Maps? :crylaugh:
It was fan ****ing tastic. I live a block away from where it happened, and I use Lenchen South to travel to work. Turned my 10 minute drive into 30 minutes.
Not helped by the fact that there was a pointsman at the Lenchen/Von Willigh intersection overriding the robot.
If you guys stay in Lyttelton you should be used to seeing sink holes by now, its normal. My experience is three next to each other over two years in my street due to leaking pipes.
And for those who want photos there are none. Our local ward councilor indicated that it was detected underneath the intersection with no visible ground movement as of yet.

So it is better be safe and close down that part of the road/intersection than having a big problem....
12m deep, 75cm below the road surface and as big as a school hall
On the bright side, traffic was still much better than living in Randburg, which has no potholes.
Definitely. Imagine it goes south when cars are over it.

Update Jean and Gerhard Street Sinkhole 18 May 2017 14:21:
An assessment was done this morning. The size of the sinkhole could not clearly be established as the side -to -side visibility could not clearly be determined. The hole is exceptional deep and wide. An engineering report will be prepared in the next week starting tomorrow. This will include circle drilling to determine the exact extend of the sinkhole. The area is being formally barricaded off today and as much as possible provision from a safety perspective will be made to allow access to the Zenex garage and other centers in the vicinity of the intersection. The engineering report will answer many of the outstanding questions at this point such as the rehabilitation process for this sinkhole, the time lines to have the road reopened and what caused this sinkhole to appear. As mentioned the engineering report will take about a week to finalize. In this time we will keep residents regularly updated on the progress. We realize the extend of interruptions caused by the road closures and the City will do all it can to resolve this matter as quick as possible .
