So I am not someone that gets sick or go to the doctor often but this past month has been hell. I have been sick the first part of this past month but the normal sick where you feel drained etc but I cant stay in bed as I constantly have to go to crap places across the world.

That cold has come and gone but the one I am sitting with now is just pissing me off to no end. I have had a constant white noise sound in my ears. Theres is so much pressure in my head that it feels like my eyes and teeth are literally being pushed out of my skull.

I have taken 7 cortisone pills per day for 5 days and it did nothing. I have sprayed salt water in my nose and the things that came out is not supposed to be in one's nose. I have taken sinupret or something like that but nothing seems to help. I only take antibiotics when really really necessary or if I picked up something weird up in Africa etc.

What else can I do? I have not tasted anything in almost 2 weeks and the white noise in my head/ears is making me a bit irritated.

Go get professional medical help?

Only other I do is a sinus bath using the pot...
Well seeing as I took cortisone I would assume that the doctor prescribed them which means I got professional help but thanks. Sinus bath I have been doing but it only helps for a little while.

I have never had allergies or sinus problems so this feeling is a first for me but it can f uck right off now.

My bad, of course and steaming? (can't think if anything else you've already covered)

Only other thing I ever did was some dandelion *shrugs*
Have not tried steaming, might give it a go a bit later.

It's a virus, nothing you can do but let your body take care of it. I know it's bad, also currently sick with the constant runny nose and it's been a week. Starting to get better now though.

Calm down. Not everyone can put that link together and you might of gotten that from another consultation.

I too went through the motions of something similar. I normally don't get sick, but July was not a good month.

I went through 3 different courses of antibiotics and by the end of it, I can't honestly tell you that it made a difference. It might have, but I felt that the symptoms were the same throughout.

I've had three different consultations, but I was desperate even though after each course, nothing really had changed.

I identify with the 'pressure in my head' and 'no taste' symptoms. That only came back after 8 weeks. I still have that lingering cough too, which makes me cough like a madman at times.

I can honestly suggest that you should see your doctor. Sure the defacto is antibiotics and maybe it won't help you directly, but maybe it'll give your immune system a chance to fight what is really ailing you instead of everything else.

If your mucus is yellow, green or even orange/blood tinged, then that's a good sign of an infection.

Hope you feel better.

I am still quite against those people who keep advocating antibiotics. They are for bacterial infections, not viral. Taking them for viral will probably make you worse off as you're still going to need to take probiotics to deal with you killing off all the "good" bacteria like those found in your intestinal system, thereby just adding more strain.

South African society (I think U.S. do the same, Austria finally they are trying to stop it in public, but there are still outliers) just think antibiotics are the wonder cure for everything, it's not, it's bad to keep taking them for no reason as more bacteria becomes immune to it.

And there are tons of others.

Tbh, @OP, I don't understand why they gave you cortisone either tbh, but there aren't really any side-effects to it.
Conclusion
The results of our review show that corticosteroid treatment for patients with influenza virus infection does not result in better outcomes, and may be associated with mortality and nosocomial infections. Moreover, durations of MV and ICU stay are clearly longer in patients who receive systemic corticosteroid treatment. Although these data are derived from observational studies, with important limitations, these results suggest that physicians should be very cautious when considering corticosteroid treatment in patients with influenza virus infection. Further in-depth studies with strong designs and larger sample sizes are needed to fully solve this clinical puzzle.

I agree with you, but people want solutions to their problems, even if it's for comforts sake. Damn the risk and everyone else down the line.

Yep, I just find it such a dumb mentality as the antibiotics actually make it so it takes you that little bit longer to recover.
I know for a fact that there are patients that will walk out and go to another doctor if you do not prescribe antibiotics to them.

The cortisone was for the pressure caused by the blocked sinuses. The reason I am asking here is because someone might have some solution that might just help, not for confront sake.

Didn't you say it was already runny? My bad then.

If you have time and money go to Mozambique. Flu and cold virus doesn't stand a chance in that heat. Happened to me in March where my sinuses immediately unblocked and the flu disappeared within a day. Achy head, sore throat, bronchitis also all gone.

I was in North Africa 3 days ago. Way hotter than Mozambique and I think it makes it worse.

My sympathies.

I had the flu injection for the first time in 20 years at the beginning of May and have had flu twice since. I normally only get the flu every second year. Doubt I'll get the jab again.

The first flu didn't last long but then I had this lingering cough for a month! Turns out I had a post nasal drip I was unaware of (your nose doesn't need to be running for a post nasal drip). Anti histamine sorted that out.

Got the second flu a few weeks ago. The lingering cough is the worst. ACC 200 does help get the phlegm out though.

Try having raw onion for some relief.

Side effect : bad breath

I have chronically somewhat blocked sinuses and the best thing I've used is steaming Olbas oil (few drops in boiling water, inhale the vapour until it stops stinging). Opens your face up in ways you didn't think possible. It was suggested by a doctor alongside sinutab etc. It's not a cure but it definitely helps the symptoms, without it I'd never be able to dive and equalise pressure.

I suffered from sinus and ear infections for years. Tinnitus and dizziness from viral infections in my ears and sinus so bad that my teeth would hurt. Went to see an ENT. He told me to keep my ears dry and I use cheap ear plugs from Dischem when I shower. Have not had any ear issues since. I was getting viral infections because of the conditions created by the moisture in my ears. I had a deviated septum repaired and have not had any sinus issues since. This has been a huge improvement in my quality of life.
