A client has asked me to do the following.

Traffic to a specific site needs to be routed out through a 3G connection, traffic to all other sites need to be routed through an ADSL connection.

Whats the best way to do this?

Do the sites have static IP's?
Do they want the cheapest or the best way to route the traffic?

The websites they want to visit have static IPs. I have no idea why they are wanting this strange setup. I am a 3rd party being asked if I know if it can be done.

Some clients want random things, it might also be that they feel the performance is better on 3G for some reason.
If they had a 3G router and a normal ADSL router which were both behind a linux firewall then it would be quite easy using iptables or even just static routes.
Not using a 3G router though makes it a whole lot more fiddly.
The alternative is the ADSL and 3G router sitting behind a cisco or similar device which does the routing.

Route Policy Solution

Hello ghoti

The setup you're describing is accomplished through business-class routers, using a feature called Route Policies.
As the name suggests, apart from having a default gateway/route (in your case, ADSL), you can configure a policy to ensure that certain traffic (eg. that with a particular destination IP) routes over a different WAN connection linked into that router.
For your requirement, your router would need mobile broadband support, as well as either a built-in ADSL modem or a WAN port to link into a bridged ADSL modem.

DrayTek offers a few routers to accomplish this which are surprisingly straightforward to configure.

Two of the most popular models in this category -

DrayTek Vigor 2860 Series

DrayTek Vigor 2925 Series

Let me know if you'd like any more info or advice on the config.

Very doable with almost endless solutions.

Depends on the current setup. How is the ADSL and 3G currently used - a router for each? Any firewalls in the mix?

Simple static routes on the core network will do this but depending on your setup might be more complicated than that.
