Game stores has the above mentioned router for R799. I need a new adsl router at home. Would this be a good deal? I see it has wireless N 300 and a 3g ready usb port.

That is a complete ripoff, unless you know that it supports most of the 3G/HSDPA devices found in SA.

You can get routers with Wireless N (300Mbps + MIMO) + Gigabit LAN + USB 2.0 (for printer/NAS/3G) for under R600. eg. http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/4054...0Mbps_Ultimate_Wireless_N_Gigabit_Router.html * Please note that you'll require 3rd-party firmware (like DD-WRT) to be able to use its USB port for 3G devices.

Buying routers to share the USB 3G device is a risky business, unless the product sheet explicitly shows that it supports your specific 3G device's model number!

That Sitecom site just mentioned the recommended HuaWei E220 & E270 3G devices, which I suppose most 3G routers support. I'm really not sure what kind of 3G devices Cell C or 8ta uses. The old Vodacom ones were the Huawei E220 devices.

Update:
If you want a 3G capable router that supports a lot of 3G/HSDPA devices, then look at the TP-Link TL-MR3420: http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/2672...N_3G_Router_for_use_with_3G_4G_USB_Modem.html
Here's its MASSIVE compatibility list: http://www.tp-link.com/common/subject/3g-router/compatible/list/

thanks pada..

Thing is that i dont really need the 3g. I just need a strong wireless signal for a two floor house. Ive noticed that takealot has the trendnet tew 658brm for R499. Price is good but is the router any good?

If you don't need 3G or ADSL in the router, then just get a normal Wireless N WiFi AP, like the following TP-Link WR841ND @ ~R350 (incl VAT, excl shipping).
^^ That WiFi AP has detachable antennas, MIMO (multiple in, multiple out) support and you can flash it with DD-WRT firmware if you need more functionality from it.
Please just take note that this WiFi AP does not have an ADSL modem or USB port for 3G.

Generally I would suggest that you place a WiFi AP on each floor, because the wireless signals usually propagates in a horizontal plane. I really can't guarantee that any WiFi AP will cover 2 floors, which is why I'd suggest that you run a LAN cable to the other floor and place a WiFi AP on it too.
